Everyone’s interested in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) today! SEO is not, any more, only for the web marketers who live, breathe, smoke, drink, eat, dream and probably do all other activities thinking about Search Engines. It has become a common thing for everyone to think that if you have any online presence, you need SEO to let people know of your existence. So everyone who starts a blog probably seeks SEO related features first, even before they think about the content. This has led to the development of several SEO plugins for WordPress, the most popular blogging platform. A combination of some of these plugins will help you to develop the perfect “SEO-Friendly” blog without worrying too much about the Search Engines. Whew! Finally you can think about the content and other features… Well, here we go -

All-in-One SEO Pack: This is by far the most popular SEO plugin I have come across. Everywhere on the net you find list of SEO plugins, this one’s sure to make it first on the list. So be it!

Simple Tags: Claims to be “THE perfect tool to manage perfeclty your WP 2.3, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 and 2.8 tags”. The best feature of this plugin is to automatically pull tags from your posts. Other features include mass tag editing and auto completion.

SEO Simple Tags WordPress Plugin

HeadSpace 2: This plugin helps to insert metadata, CSS and Javascript to various pages, change the theme or run disabled plugins on specific pages etc.

NoFollow Case-by-Case: As the name suggests, this plugin helps you to add nofollow to specific links that you do not want to relate to, while allowing other links to be followed.

Redirection: This one is particularly useful for doing 301 redirections and maintaining 404 pages. That said, in today’s “SEO Friendly World”, I’m sure all of you are aware of 301 redirections and 404 Errors.

SEO Post Link: Even more sanitization of post URLs. Search Engines frown upon URLs that are long. This plugin comes with an already populated list of words to cut from a title when it turns into a URL to make your post addresses that much friendlier.

SEO-Friendly Images: “SEO Friendly Images is a WordPress optimization plugin which automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes. If your images do not have ALT and TITLE already set, SEO Friendly Images will add them according the options you set. Additionally this makes the post W3C/xHTML valid as well.”

Meta Robots Plugin: This one helps you to add robot metadata to any page you choose. You can prevent your search results pages and login pages from indexing, disable author and database archives etc.

Seo Blogroll: It can create as many seperate link boxes as you want. You can then choose to add nofollow on each links.

SEO No Duplicate Plugin: “This plugin helps you manage your search engine duplicate content, by setting your post page’s canonical to the permalink.”

SEO No Duplicate WordPress Plugin

Platinum SEO Plugin: It offers automatic 301 redirects for permalink changes, auto-generation of META tags, post slug optimization, help in avoiding duplicate content and a host of other features.

Google XML Sitemaps: It will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.

SEO Title Tag Plugin: This can optimize the title tags across your WordPress-powered blog or website. Not just your posts, not just your home page, but any and every title tag on your site!

SEO for Paged Comments: Solves the problem caused in WP 2.7 of putting the same content on different permalinks.

SEO Friendly & HTML Valid Sub-Headings: “Some themes for WordPress will confuse your sub-header tags based on the page they are to be displayed on, but this plugin will automatically reset them to make them more SEO friendly by moving them down one spot in the hierarchical tree.  In other words, h2 becomes h3, h3 becomes h4 and so on.”

SEO Tag-Cloud Widget: This plugin will convert tag clouds to SEO-friendly HTML markup that can be indexed.

Automatic SEO Links: “Just choose a word and a URL and this plugin will replace all matches in the posts of your blog.”

TGFI.net SEO Plugin: With this plugin you can set custom page titles, meta descriptions and meta keywords with page and post level inputs.

SEO Smart Links: “SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.”

Hi Ranadeep, i’m a wordpress developer, more into the coding side of things. However i believe seo is a less important factor than content for search engines. With the amount of useful plugins these days anyone can do seo. don’t you agree?
