I have been keeping a track of PhotoBlog Themes for Wordpress for quite some time now. And it’s true that there are several excellent ones available, mostly for free (I’d be sharing some of my interesting finds at a later post maybe). But I could never come across a thumbnail gallery style theme of my liking. So I decided my new free Wordpress theme release to be something like that. The original CSS design is to be credited to CSScreme.

So here’s a new, free, feature-rich Thumbnail Gallery Theme for Wordpress – wzThumbelina, by WebbyZone.

Features:

• New, innovative thumbnail style gallery.
• Seperate layouts for Homepage, single post pages and normal pages.
• Widepage template included.
• 404 page with recent posts gallery and search box included.
• Built-in “Related Posts” with thumbnails based on tags. No plugins required.
• Auto thumbnail generation from first readable image in posts with the help of catch_that_image() function.
• Additional CSS classes to easily format image posts in single pages and change their alignments -
  • class=”leftalign” - displays images aligned to left with texts wrapping around it
  • class=”center” – displays images aligned to center with texts displaying below images
  • class=”rightalign” – displays images aligned to right WITHOUT text wrap. The text is displayed below the images.
  • class=”textright” – displays images aligned to right WITH textwrap. Text is wrapped around the images.
• CMS based functionalities. Once the theme is activated, a Thumbelina Options link is displayed in your admin panel under the Appearance section. You can enter your details right from the admin panel and do not need to manually edit any part of the raw php theme files. You can add / edit the following -
  • Enter your twitter username. It will automatically be added to the Follow Me link in the footer.
  • Enter your Feedburner URL and replace your default feed URL by simply checking a box.
  • Enter your Feedburner ID and automatically get a link to “Subscribe via Email” image in the footer.
  • Enter your Feedburner Subscription Counter HTML and it will automatically start displaying in the footer.
  • Simply check one box and hide all the subscription links.
  • Add your Google Analytics code and other Stats codes (e.g. Statcounter) and it will automatically get included in all your pages allowing proper tracking of your traffic data.
• Gravatar support.
• Author comments highlighted.
• Supports child pages and sub-child pages.
• Suckerfish style dropdown menu for Pages on top.
• Default thumb image display for posts or pages with no images.

Installation:

• Download wzThumbelina for free.
• Unzip and upload the directory to wp-content/themes
• Activate the theme from your admin panel.
• Open the images/logo.psd file in Photoshop and edit the logo if required. Upload the edited logo through ftp to the images directory.
• Visit the Thumbelina Options page from your admin panel and enter the necessary settings.

Instructions:

• Once you activate the theme you’ll find a link to “Thumbelina Options” under the “Appearance” section of your admin panel. Click and visit the Theme Settings page.
• Enter your Feedburner URL and click on the checkbox below that says “Replace the default feed url with Feedburner RSS URL“. All your feed URLs will be automatically converted to the Feedburner URL you have entered.
• Enter your Feedburner ID. [Learn how to find your Feedburner ID] This will enable a “Subscribe via Email” option automatically in the footer next to your Search Box. If you do not enter your Feedburner ID, this option will remain invisible by default.
• Enter your Feedburner FeedCount code into the textbox that says “Show Off FeedCount“. This will automatically display your Feedburner FeedCount chicklet on the footer. You can get your Feedburner FeedCount code by logging into your Feedburner account and visiting the Publicize tab. Then click on the FeedCount option from the left sidebar.
• Enter your Twitter username. This will automatically display your “Follow Me!” link on the footer.
• Enter your Google Analytics or other analytics tracking  code e.g. Statcounter, or both on the last textbox. This will automatically insert your analytics code in all the pages for traffic data tracking. No need to get your hands dirty with the raw php theme files anymore.
• Each row in the homepage can contains 6 thumbnails. So the best way is to adjust your “Reading Settings” in Wordpress to display posts in a multiple of 6 per page i.e. if you have say 20 posts, and your reading settings is adjusted to display 18 per page, then on the homepage you’ll see 3 rows of thumbnails, and the remaining 2 will be on next page.
